The original setup for the planetary gears weren't meshing .The reason was because of the teeth chosen and the number of planets in the system. There are physical constraints to the planetary gear that were not considered in the first design. In this design, they are considered and everything managed to mesh well. The main two points is:
(Ring Teeth) = (Sun Teeth) + 2 * (Planet Teeth) And [(Ring Teeth) + (Sun Teeth)] / (Number of planets) = An Integer
The second equation was not used in the first design. This design has the following: Planet Teeth = 24 Sun Teeth = 48
Ring Teeth = 96
Module = 6
Planet Dia. = 144 mm
Sun Dia. = 288 mm
Ring Dia. = 576
Diameters are measured from the center.
The ring gear will be fixed. The planet gears and sun gear have a gear ratio of 1:3. Based on the number of teeth, 4 rotations of the planet gears is necessary to return back to their original positions. Therefore, the sun gear will rotate 4/3 for each period. Therefore, the period of this gear is 4/3 * (Sun gear RPM).
Reductions or increases in speed can be done by attaching another set of gears to the motor, and sun gear to change the timing.
